The voiceover was created for my graduation. I had to prepare a statement for them as they needed to understand my Brazilian and Swiss background in order to evaluate my work. I am currently working on a more intimate viewpoint and practice of crochet in Brazil.
"I see something you don't see," is a pop cultural ethnographic research that analyzes the contemporary aesthetic of the cultural heritage of crochet in
Rio de Janeiro.
An observation through a medium in this case crochet helps us understand the identity of the everyday city life. We connect heritage with traditional and historical past aesthetics. The focus is on how crochet, as an everyday object, shapes cultural heritage that is influenced by trends and movements in the current moment. In 2022 Rio de Janeiro has been impact significanty by politics and the Corona pandemic. This impact’s traces leave a need for day laborers. In this analysis, I can demonstrate how diverse the handcraft is, and I can't find a specific type of personality that engages in crochet. What This website provides a selection of ethnographic footage, films, photographs, and text from the period between February 2022 to April 2023. The material is carefully curated and chosen.
